The digital camera paved the way for the invention of camera phones. The first camera phone was released to the public in 1999 by the Kyocera Corporation. The VP-210 had a front facing camera and a 2-inch LCD screen.

The VP-210 was the first step to creating modern camera phones. Companies such as Apple improved the invention by creating their own phones. Apple released the iPhone in 2007, and improved both the phone and camera each year following.

Camera phones, later more commonly categorized with smartphones, revolutionized communication globally. People are able to share news, post on social media, and communicate with each other in a matter of seconds. The world became more interconnected as a result.
